This workshop promoted the use of design methods to challenge existing perceptions of a topic rather than simply seeking a solution. My doctoral research project utilised this methodology to foster discussions on smart home technologies through a reflexive lens, aiming to envision alternatives that address current challenges instead of merely providing technical fixes. The initiative revisits conflict points raised by the same group of participants in previous workshops. This trouble-focused approach to co-design can be widely explored and replicated in various contexts interested in encouraging deeper social discussions beyond a quick fix.
