Prototyping Smart Homes: Proposing a Co-Design Grounded in the Cinema Imaginaire
2021
Conference Paper
IV Colloque International Imaginaire: Construire et Habiter la Terre: mégalopoles, métropoles, villes à la campagne, villes décroissantes. Quels imaginaires pour la ville de demain?
Coauthored with Gil Barros
The development of smart home technologies currently follows a technicist logic
that does not present itself willing to include users in the design process. The present
work aims to present the hypothesis of using excerpts from audiovisual productions as a
trigger for speculative discussions within co-design processes. The analyzed productions
(n=34) were refined (n=14) and divided into four different groups of allegories. Even if
in general the productions present a hegemonic and sanitized aesthetic, this bias can be
used as a resource for the mapping of social dynamics that should be considered in a
diverse and inclusive smart homes project.
