Origami and Algorithm

2017

Short Course

PortoFabLab, Porto Seguro Cultural Centre

This short course aimed to explore the potential of Japanese folding paper Origami art as a tactile tool for teaching and learning programming logic. The visual and instructional language of Origami diagrams is similar to procedural algorithms, as they represent a series of discrete steps that, if followed, will lead to a consistent and verifiable result. Participants were then introduced to the symbols and variables of folding paper diagrams and were asked to assemble their own Origami algorithm.

Tools:

Paper based origami
